About this series

Lent is a 40-day season of reflection and repentance. It invites us to confront our sin with prayer and fasting. We start in ashes and begin a journey to the joyous celebration of resurrection at Easter.

In a season of repentance, we confront our sin. But the practices we engage in during Lent to remind us of the need for repentance and turn again toward Christ are not how we get to Easter. Instead, we have to remember that the battle with sin is one we cannot win—not on our own.

The lesson of Lent is that we are to throw ourselves at the feet of Jesus, relying upon his tender mercy.

These seven weeks will help you lead your church (and yourself) into repentance and to the feet of the real victor, Christ. We will lament with the psalmists, look to the new and greater Adam, marvel at the grace he offers, and seek to follow him in humility. Along the way, we look to Christ's merciful work—it alone is what will bring us to the "Alleluia" of Easter morning.

Start Planning for Lent

Can't wait to get started? Our NEW GUIDES will start going up in January, but already we have 6 full Lent sermon series to choose from. Those following the Revised Common Lectionary will find "Leaning Toward the Light" is fully compatible with this year's lectionary cycle (Year A).

Want more resources for planning your sermons and services throughout Lent?

Our Lent worship guide is a hub for all our Lent resources: you'll find sermon angles from our blog and links to sermon resources and liturgy based on common themes for Lent.

Why Preach a TPW Sermon Series?

All our resources are designed to support pastors as they craft their own sermons based on the biblical text, applied to their specific congregation's context and needs, with sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

That's why our guides are not just a set of sermons to download. Instead, each sermon series we offer is a set of guides with the resources to craft sermons on a single unified theme over several Sundays: all the materials you need to get started:

  • Preaching-oriented commentary on the highlighted text,

  • Quotes related to the text and its themes,

  • Illustrations to drive your message home,

  • Discussion questions for going deeper, and

  • Liturgy to bring the text to life during worship.

Want to see what we offer?

Preview a complete guide from our 2025 Lent series to see the quality and depth of resources we provide. Each 2026 guide will follow the same format with commentary, illustrations, quotes, discussion questions, and liturgy.

Think of our guides as all-in-one Sunday starter kits.

You take our insights and resources and adapt them to your own prayerful understanding of the Bible readings, considering the message your congregation needs to hear, and with an ear to how the Holy Spirit may be speaking.
